New, Improved Version - Now with 2 large thumbscrews for a more secure grip for heavy accessories.

This high-quality adapter connects to the rear cell of many Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes made by Meade, Celestron and others. The standard SCT rear cell thread on telescopes is a 2" diameter x 24 TPI male thread. Using this adapter, you can attach 2" diagonals, photo adapters or other accessories to your SCT telescope. If you already have a standard 2" diagonal for your refractor telescope, you won't need a new SCT-type diagonal for your telescope! However, note that this adapter will not accept an SCT-threaded diagonal.

The practical adapter is made from precision machined aluminum and is black anodized. It includes a brass compression ring that clamps around the inserted eyepiece or accessory. Because the set-screw does not come in direct contact with the eyepiece, the eyepiece barrel will not be scratched or dented. The inside surface of this adapter is black-matted to enhance contrast by reducing stray light reflections.

Total length = 48mm (1.89"), Depth of eyepiece holder inside = 40mm (1.57"); Weight = 3.5 oz., Made in Taiwan.

Please note: A very small number of older Celestron SCTs had a non-standard SCT thread (with a different thread pitch), so this adapter may not screw on. We cannot advise you of this before purchase, as it will work for the vast majority of telescopes.

   The Blue Fireball 2" SCT visual back works great. But it would be better if they would add another screw hole to allow you to choose where to place the two set screws. When attaching the visual back to your rear opening, one of the two screw hole could lie right over your focuser, making it hard to use.

    I bought this adapter (along with a 2" to 1.25" adapter) to replace the OEM 1.25" eyepiece holder on my Celestron C5. It fits perfectly and holds my diagonal much more securely than the original part. The only point against this holder is that the lock screws need to be removed to screw the holder onto the C5, otherwise they hit the focus knob. This is a very minor complaint.

    Wanting to use 2" eyepieces on my Celestron C9.25 with 2" diagonal, I read some pertinent input from a couple well known astronomy forums and began searching for the appropriate attachment. After finding several options, it didn't take long to realize that for the price, the Blue Fireball attachment with SCT threading was the most logical option. Lightweight, well-made, simple, and cost-effective, this attachment fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunately, the threads don't match the threads on my older C8, so can't be used with it. Since I leave it attached to the C9.25 when not in use, I wish it came with an end cap to keep dust out, but made my own. Other than that, it's perfect. And, as always, Agena is a top notch, reliable vendor.

    Fit and finish of this visual back is very good. However the specified 2" eyepiece depth only describes the depth before the adapter's thread starts. The actual usable depth is dependent on the length of the threads on the scope. For my Edge HD 800, usable depth is less than the 34mm needed for my diagonal.

    Some reviewers might not realize this is happening - it is too short by only a small amount, but it means the diagonal nosepiece will rest/wear against the scope's inner mating surface rather than the back of the visual back. Since that surface needs to be in good condition for other Celestron accessories, the adapter is useless to me.

    This has replaced my stock Celestron 8 visual back. I use 2 inch eyepieces only in my C8 and the lower powered ones can be a little heavy. My stock visual back would not hold them where I wanted them usually and the visual back would rotate and the eyepiece with it. My new Blue Fireball Visual back has no threaded ring like the Celestron back does so no slipping. Also, I just leave the Blue Fireball on the scope when storing it in it's case. It helps while taking the scope out of the case.

    I'm using this to allow me to use a 2" 2x barlow along with my DSLR to take high powered images of the planets with my 8" SCT. The two thumbscrews make for a very solid and stable connection without worries of the camera turning or falling out. The newer thumbscrews are large and substantial and allow for easy tightening. The construction quality is first rate with chamfered edges on the turnings, SCT threads that mate well and move smoothly, and a nice brass compression ring to eliminate marks on your gear from the thumbscrews. No downsides on this product!

    Excellent item, quality build. The only con is when used with a heavy eyepiece, (eg: axiom 31 mm) which is an extremely heavy piece, the clamping power of the unit is barely enough to hold the eyepiece in place, and can be moved with minimal force.

    Work OK w/ my diagonals and seems to hold them adequately. The thumb screw that tightens the compression ring on the diagonal is way too small. It is dificult to adequately tighten the compression ring. This gets exciting when rotating the diagonal in the dark. Other than that it does the job nicely.

    This is a simple well made adapter. It attaches on the back of the SCT (a Celestron C8 in my case) and allows relatively easy use of your 2" accessories. I say "relatively easy" because the retaining screw is rather small. I found one with a bigger "head" and replaced the original. The brass compression ring is the best part of it. Overall good solid one-piece construction and looks.

    I found that for my 8" SCT, the Televue 2" SCT adapter was too long, and the Televue SHORT 2" adapter was too short. This adapter is just right! Now I can use my fancy 2" diagonal and still look directly at the pole.

    The piece is made of high precision machined aluminum with a good quality black anodized finish. There is a brass compression sleeve, but only one thumbscrew. I added a second thumbscrew myself...makes me feel better holding my big 2" diagonal and eyepieces.

    This is must have for SCT owners. You can use your 2" diagonal, or hook up your DSLR (with adapter of course) for prime focus AP. The thing I like best is I don't have to buy seperate accessories for my refractor AND my SCT. This cool little adapter saves you $$. Well built, and very inexpensive.
